Locations Foundation Members Hit the Court for a Great Cause at the 3rd Annual Paddle for HUGS Pickleball Tournament
Our Locations Foundation volunteers were proud to hit the court at the 3rd Annual Paddle for HUGS Pickleball Tournament, presented by Justine Stamen Arrillaga & John Arrillaga. Hosted at Kamiloiki Community Park on November 1, 2025, the event brought together athletes of all experience levels for friendly competition—all in support of HUGS and their mission to assist Hawaii’s seriously ill children and their families.
Representing the Foundation were agents Erika Peralta and Jerry Li, along with Foundation Executive Board member and Director of Marketing Taizo Braden, who brought their A-game to the mixed-doubles, round-robin tournament. Players in each division were guaranteed at least six games, with medals awarded for the top three teams across every bracket. But beyond scores and standings, our team was simply excited to participate for a cause close to our hearts.
In addition to participating in the tournament, the Foundation was also an official sponsor.
A Day of Fun, Community and Unforgettable Moments
In true HUGS fashion, the event featured surprises and entertainment throughout the day. One highlight was a special halftime exhibition match with pickleball pro Keven Wong. In a moment our team won’t forget, Jerry was selected to join him on the court, with Keven swapping his paddle for a slipper and even an ukulele! Laughter filled the courts as spectators cheered on the playful showdown.
Attendees were also treated to a live musical performance by Jody Kamisato of Ukulele Hale, adding to the festive, community-centered atmosphere. Free smoothies from Jamba Hawaii, tasty hydration drinks from Hi Essentials, giveaways, and a sea of pink-clad participants—HUGS’ signature color—rounded out the experience.
Foundation Executive Board member and event organizer Megumi Nekotani shared: “I am so proud of our team. This HUGS event continues to grow every year with so much community support, and I am so thankful that Locations Foundation was able to support it again.”
Looking Ahead
Mahalo to HUGS for another inspiring event and to all the volunteers, sponsors, performers and players who made the day a success. We’re looking forward to continuing our support for HUGS and the incredible families they serve. Until next year—paddles up!
About HUGS
The mission of HUGS is to strengthen Hawaii’s families and improve their quality of life as they face the emotional and financial hardships of caring for a seriously ill child. HUGS was founded in 1982 by a small group of volunteers at Unity Church on Oahu who recognized the many challenges and stressors that families with seriously ill children face. They noticed families who were constantly challenged financially, spiritually, emotionally, and by many other issues related to their child’s condition. They felt families shouldn’t have to go through this journey alone.
