Locations Foundation Gives Children’s Organizations a First Look at “How To Train Your Dragon”

The Locations Foundation hosted its 17th annual Movie Day at Olino by Consolidated Theatres in Kapolei, Saturday, June 14 2025. This eagerly awaited event brought together 13 Foundation volunteers and more than 160 children from Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawaii and Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii for a private screening of the premiere of the Imax version of “How To Train Your Dragon.”

To complete the movie-going experience, our friendly volunteers acted as ushers and passed out snack boxes. “How To Train Your Dragon,” a live-action remake of the beloved 2010 animated film, is one of this year’s most anticipated fantasy films, and our guests of honor were buzzing with excitement to be among the first to see it in Hawaii.

To add to the day’s excitement, Foundation Executive Board member Judy M. Kumano presented Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawaii with $5,000 to support their mission of connecting young people with a caring mentor to inspire and empower them.

“Our volunteers look forward to Movie Day every year,” said Megumi Nekotani, Foundation Executive Board member, who along with Kumano, helped to organize this year’s event. “It’s an absolute privilege and thrill to be able to provide a morning of fun and laughter at the movies for these special keiki and their chaperones!”

In addition to Kumano and Nekotani, other volunteers included Locations Foundation President Kristin Mukai, Bernadette Hanna, Cari Tanabe, Carmen Takeuchi, Crystal Chang, Dancetta Feary, Marie Elaine Guerrero, Priscilla Wassman, Susan Onishi and Foundation Secretary Tracey Okuhara.

A big mahalo to our amazing volunteers for making this year’s Locations Foundation Movie Day a huge success! From creating lasting memories for children in need to giving back to our community, this event was a perfect reflection of what the Locations Foundation is all about.

It offers a space to share stories, honor memories, and find comfort among others who understand.
